An affiliate link is a normal link with a tracking code attached. If you click it and buy something within the retailer’s tracking window, the retailer credits us with a commission on that sale. The price you pay is exactly the same as it would be if you had reached the product any other way. You are never charged extra, and no part of the commission comes out of your pocket.

4. HOW THIS AFFECTS OUR RECOMMENDATIONS

It does not. That is the entire point of this page, so here is the commitment stated as plainly as we can:

  • We do not sell rankings. No brand can pay to appear in a buying guide, to be named a top pick, or to be placed above a competitor.
  • Commission rate does not decide the winner. We do not rank a product higher because it pays more. Frequently the product we recommend earns us less than the one we did not.
  • We publish the weaknesses. Every product we recommend also gets a clear statement of what it does badly and who should skip it. A recommendation that only lists positives is advertising, not research.
  • Receiving a product creates no obligation. If a brand sends us something, that does not guarantee coverage, and it does not guarantee a favourable outcome if we do cover it. Any such arrangement is disclosed on the page.
  • We will say “buy nothing”. Where the honest answer is that a reader’s existing fixture is fine, or that the whole product category is not worth the money, we say so, even though that earns us nothing.

5. HOW WE CHOOSE WHAT TO RECOMMEND

Our recommendations come from research rather than hands-on laboratory testing. We compare published manufacturer specifications, published installation and safety documentation, and verified owner reviews read in volume for repeating patterns. We do not claim to have physically tested every product we cover, and where a manufacturer does not publish a figure we say that it is not published rather than estimating it. Prices and availability shown by a retailer change frequently and are accurate only at the moment you view them on that retailer’s site. Where we mention price at all, treat it as indicative rather than current. Always confirm the final price, the specification, and the return policy on the retailer’s own page before completing a purchase.
